Tips for driving in the Bahamas
You'll find lots of Bahamas rental cars on Grand Bahama or Nassau. The outer islands are small enough that you won't really need a car. You do need to be over the age of 21 to rent a car in the Bahamas, and some car rental agencies will not rent to anyone under 25. Your stateside driver’s license will work up to 90 days, after which you'll need to apply for an international driving permit (IDP) or Bahamian license. Be sure to check our list of Bahamas car rental agencies for one near where you will be.
Remember, driving in Bahamas is on the left side of the road. Once you leave the main town areas the roads are not always well-maintained or even paved, and care should be used when driving here. Locals do not always obey the driving laws and speed limits, so you be sure to give your full attention to the road and other cars in order to keep your Bahamas vacation a fun one. |
